Grow Strong Roots:

We're all about the brain (2).jpg

An evidence-based, Casel-aligned, Tier 1 social-emotional learning, brain awareness and mindfulness curriculum or supplemental program for Preschool-Grade 2.

Statistically speaking, almost every student will face an adverse childhood experience, adversity or trauma that will impact their ability to learn. Teaching academic concepts without building in social-emotional learning, mindfulness or brain awareness skills to account for these statistics decreases students' full learning potential. You can build equity in your school by equipping your students with the social-emotional skills taught in Grow Strong Roots.

A robust SEL program woven with rich storytelling.

You’ll find story-based units with engaging characters make social-emotional learning truly come to life.

  • Spiral storytelling is our base for learning. Storytelling helps shape our understanding of the world and is congruent with the way our brain takes in information and learns. When you engage with a story, you activate your auditory cortex and your temporal cortex. Researchers at Ohio State University propose that stories transport us mentally in what they call Transportation Theory.

  • Storytelling captivates our brains. Incorporating storytelling into teaching and learning helps reinforce concepts taught. Delivering story-based learning builds connections and relationships within our own memories and experiences and with others. Storytelling also helps strengthen empathetic awareness.

  • Animals are the storytellers who lead our lessons. Students meet a new animal that sticks with them throughout the entire unit. Animals allow students to connect more easily with the concepts and skills and act as a bridge students can use to scaffold into peer relationships. Field and academic research point towards a child’s ability to connect to animals in a way that enriches learning and social-emotional skills, sometimes more easily than with other humans where students may have experienced trauma or have neurological diversity.

Each activity aligns with the unit's anchor lesson's underlying theme and characters, keeping students engaged, motivated, and excited. Each unit comes connected to rich literature storybooks that students find engaging. They’ll want to pick them up over and over, reinforcing the SEL skills.

Brain awareness is the key to connecting SEL and mindful learning.

We think everyone should know how their brains work - especially students! When you use engaging stories and activities to teach students what happens in their brains when they face stress, fail, try again or choose to act in kindness, the information becomes tangible, students can make choices that benefit them and their growth and potential is limitless.

Mindful teacher programming included.

Every Grow Strong Roots unit includes mindful activities and journals that align with the unit theme to promote educator stress management, resilience building and mental well-being.
